About Us

On East Madison Street, just off the edge of Capitol Hill, Chop Suey has been one of Seattle's most honest live music rooms for over two decades. The ceiling is low, the sound is loud, and the crowd actually knows the words. Touring acts like Uno The Activist and Warhol.ss have played here, and so have hundreds of artists you'll be telling people about years before they blow up.

The room is small by design. You're never more than thirty feet from the stage, which means no bad spots and no distance between you and whatever is happening. With a 4.3-star rating across more than 1,100 reviews, the regulars keep coming back not because it's fancy but because it's real. Dancing, drinking, and a $8 hot dog from the stand right out front before the doors open. That's the Chop Suey formula, and it works.

What We Offer

Live music is the main event, with bookings spanning hip-hop, indie, electronic, and everything the Seattle scene produces and imports. The calendar runs most nights of the week, from headlining tours to local showcases worth showing up early for.

Beyond the stage, Chop Suey operates as a full bar and event venue available for private bookings. The dance floor runs late, the bar is stocked, and the staff has seen enough shows to keep the energy moving without getting in the way. Whether you're catching a touring act or renting the space for a release party, the bones of the room do the heavy lifting.

Why Choose Us

Over 25 years booking emerging and established artists on Capitol Hill's most intimate stage.

Private event bookings available for release parties, corporate nights, and curated showcases.
Street-level hot dog stand outside makes the pre-show ritual as good as the show itself.

"🎬 The venue for the November 13, 2017 stop in Seattle, Washington for the Hate Me Now/Love Me Later Tour (featuring Uno The Activist, Thouxanbanfauni, and Warhol.ss) was Chop Suey. It was a pleasure to photograph your venue. ★★★★★"

"Chop Suey is a regular going out location for me! It's pretty small/low key as far as dance clubs but I think that makes it a great casual going out spot for dancing. I also really like that they have a second bar and seating area you can chill in. My only complaint is that the DJ sets are pretty unpredictable in terms of quality. I've gone to totally awesome nights (Shadowplay was great, I loved disco night with DJ Chardonnay!!!) but I have definitely seen too many DJs who leave a lot to be desired... Playing beats too slow to dance to, can't transition between songs, and even stop the music to talk? (One time there was a guy who stopped the music so many times the crowd started booing him LOL) I always have a good time because I think there's a great vibe but I think they could work on vetting their DJs a little more."

"I hadn’t been to Chop Suey in a very long time. I was quite pleasantly surprised at how well it was laid out. Sight lines to the stages are great, not a bad place to watch in the club. Friendly staff and bartenders too. I’ll be back soon!"

"The sound was incredible! The bartender friendly, and while they don't currently have Meyer's Rum, he was able to make a suggestion to make the most of it! Did I mention the sound? It is awesome!"

Frequently Asked Questions

Where exactly is Chop Suey located?

Chop Suey is at 1325 E Madison St, Seattle, WA 98122, on Capitol Hill just east of downtown. Street parking is available in the neighborhood, and several bus lines run along Madison.

What kinds of shows does Chop Suey book?

The booking spans a wide range: hip-hop, indie rock, electronic, R&B, and local Seattle talent. Past tours have included artists like Uno The Activist and Thouxanbanfauni. Check chopsuey.com for the current calendar.

Is Chop Suey a good spot just for dancing, not a specific show?

Absolutely. Regulars describe it as a casual, low-key dance club on nights without a headliner. The size keeps it from feeling overwhelming, and the music keeps the floor moving.

Can I rent Chop Suey for a private event?

Yes. The venue is available for private bookings including album release parties, birthday events, and corporate gatherings. Reach out through the website to discuss availability and details.

Is there food available at the venue?

There's a hot dog stand right outside the front door selling dogs for $8. It's become part of the Chop Suey pre-show routine for a lot of regulars.

What is the age requirement to get in?

Most shows at Chop Suey are 21-plus due to the full bar setup, though some all-ages events are scheduled. Always check the specific show listing on chopsuey.com before heading out.

How early should I arrive for a show?

Doors typically open 30 to 60 minutes before the first act. Getting there early means a better spot on the floor and time to grab a drink and a hot dog before the room fills up.
